Woke up to a gray day with the promise of rain. Motel breakfast and off the the giant muskie! The giant muskie is actually part of the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. It is featured in one of the US kid's travel books that Alex got before our road trip in June so he's been interested in it every since. It's also of interest to him because my dad worked a short stint as an iron worker in the 70's and was on the crew that built the frame for the giant muskie.
It was raining on and off when we got there but there are enough indoor things to do that we went for it anyway. You can walk up inside the muskie and out onto a deck that is inside it's mouth and overlook the whole museum complex and gardens.
The buildings house all sorts of fishing "stuff" from antique motors and lures to real record breaking mounted fish to models of various kinds of fish to antique boats and rods and reels......you get the idea.
Maya was done in the buildings after about 15 min. Alex could have spent the day there and wanted to look at and read about every single thing there.
Once I finally pulled Alex out of there we went to check out downtown Hayward. Stopped in some strange little shops, waited out some pretty good downpours under awnings and then ate lunch at the Angler Bar and Grill.
Made our way back to Minocqua after lunch. Alex and Maya had been given some money to spend in Hayward and hadn't found anything they liked to I took them into Minocqua to the good toy store to find something. By dinner time they were squirrely and trouble so we did an early bedtime and I retreated to the dock for the sunset.
Later mom and I went down the hill to play cards with some friends and left dad with the sleeping kiddos.
