sunday night/monday morning

Sunday

Halloween preview......introducing "Captain Sword"!

Saturday

Friday afternoon

Big weekend.

This last weekend started friday afternoon with the arrival of Grandma Nancy (or Antsy as Alex says) and Grandpa Ben after lunch. Saturday at lunch time Grandma and Papa (my parents) arrived and then saturday at supper time Joy, Doug and Maddie came too! Grandma Nancy and Grandpa Ben left sunday morning, sunday evening we had Maya baptised (our church service is at 5:30pm instead of in the morning). Monday morning Joy, Doug and Maddie headed home and then after lunch Grandma and Papa headed home.
We sqeezed in a trip to the pumpkin patch, carved pumpkins and played out in the yard in there somewhere.
Pictures to follow!

We have a new baby

Maya started the Zantac on wednesday. We were told that we should see a difference in 3 days. Wednesday, thursday and friday morning were really hard days, LOTS of crying. Friday morning I took Alex to a friend's house to play, we had never been to their house before. Maya screamed for a good 20 minutes while we were there :( before falling asleep then cried all the way home in the car too. I was just wiped out by the time I got home and thinking at this rate we were never going to leave the house again, it just wasn't worth it. She woke up from a nap that afternoon a brand new girl. It is amazing. She smiles so much and coos and gurgles and doesn't need to cry for a couple hours before falling asleep at night. We are very relieved!

Apple orchar/pumpkin patch trip

Yesterday we had a group visit to Hoxie's Orchard. It was much nicer weather than last year, last year we were in winter hats and coats! A few of these pictures are courtesy of Tessa's mom Jessica who helped Alex out for part of the time while I had to feed Maya. (Thanks!)

A little brag on Alex

Alex signed his own name on my birthday card, Ben helped him get the letters in the right order (he still "reads" from right to left) but he drew them himself. Alex did this today with his colored pencils while I was feeding Maya:

The results of Maya's test

The results of her upper GI test said that she has acid reflux due to valve between her stomach and her esophagus being weak. That's fairly common and it usually gets stronger with age. In the meantime she started yesterday on a low dose of Zantac to help with the discomfort. The past few days have been very rough. We've gotten a little taste of what it is like to have a full on colicky baby. She cried all day yesterday pretty much :( That is very stressful for Alex as well. When she isn't crying, she has started to smile big, real smiles. Alex just loves it when she smiles at him. She is sleeping a lot today, probably wiped out from the past few days, and we are hoping that by the weekend we will see an improvement.
I have been talking to some health care providers about the way Maya was force fed the barium for her test and everyone has been shocked and encouraged me to lodge a formal complaint. She easily could have aspirated barium while crying that hard with the tape over most of her mouth and that could be very serious. So I have the phone number of the head of radiology and there is also a patient liaison program through the hospital website I can use if that goes no where.
