Maya turns 6

First day of school, misc fall

Alex, age 9, starting 4th grade.  Maya, about to turn 6, starting 1st grade.

With Maya's class at the orchard and pumpkin patch.

From some of my morning hikes and walks with the dog.

Campfires and fun

Alex and Maya took turns playing with my camera on a tripod and "painting" with a flashlight to light up different parts of their "scene".

Back home - August 2013 -

The kids and I did a few adventure days around home.  One day we drove over to the beach at Alberta.  It was a cooler day at home and cloudy but ended up being sunny and relatively warm out of the wind there.

Patches of sunshine

We did have a few days scattered here and there with patches of sunshine and evenings where the wind died down.  And always the beautiful sunsets.  We tried to get out in the canoe on these evenings.  Alex is very good at paddling now and can actually make a difference helping going all the way around the island.

2013 Black River Harbor day trip

It's a tradition!  Maya wanted so badly to go to the top of the ski jump this year but I'm just not ready for that.  She doesn't pay enough attention to her surroundings and there are a lot of open railings, open staircases, etc.  So we bribed her with a "photo shoot" to stay with Grandma and I at the bottom!

Storm clouds built in the distance but we had dry, relatively warm and sunny weather to spend at the beach!  Our attempt at hiking on the way out did not go as well though.  It was a downpour reminiscent of our Smokey Mountain hiking attempts!

Ahhh, the cabin.

Last summer in WI wasn't exactly a hot, sunny, swim all day sort of summer.  Some days it was down right cold and there were many cool, rainy days.  The warmer days tended to have a strong north wind on our shoreline so swimming was a quicker in and out affair rather than an all afternoon playtime.  So we got creative and did lots of other things.

Blueberries, fishing and campfire at Grandma Ruth's.

Bike rides on the Bearskin Trail.

Pioneer Park and the Logging Museum in Rhinelander

We went to the Kovac Planetarium in Monico for the first time.  What a cool place!
