Obviously I couldn't take pictures of our bike race. Although there were several spots on the race course that I wished I could have.
It was a perfect day to ride. Cool, even misting at times and cloudy. The rain from the night before kept the dust down and made the sand more solid in some spots.
We all had a great time!
The campground was pretty close to the finish so we just hung out there until we were ready and then rode back to the campsite.
Later that afternoon it was finally time for Alex's race. He was SO excited. There were a ton of kids at the start and adults were allowed to either ride or walk along. Ben took Alex up to get in line for the start and stood there with him since it was pretty chaotic. Finally Alex said "DAD! You can go now!".
He did the whole thing by himself (1 mile) and had a blast. Every kid got a ribbon at the end, he was pretty proud.
The night before in the campground it was pretty quiet except for a big 5th wheel trailer that drove through past our site 3 times in the early morning. We were on the end of a row with a tight corner just beyond our site and on the 3rd lap around they must have taken the corner too tight and smacked right into the big pole on the corner. It was very loud.
Saturday night we had thunderstorms. Major thunderstorms. It was one of the loudest nights I've ever spent in a tent. The kids did wonderfully. Alex was awake but not upset. Maya woke once and snuggled closer but then went back to sleep.
Packing up a wet tent is never fun but it's better than packing up in the rain and it had cleared up by morning.
