Wow - Alex was definitely more "into" it this year. He is a little more brave about spooky things and was very excited to wear his costume this year.
With Halloween being on a friday this year we did a whole bunch of things in one day instead of having it spread out a bit like last year.
We started the morning off at the library for a costume party storytime. Quite a few "library friends" and other friends were there. It was fun to see everyone with their costumes.
We headed downtown in the afternoon to do the Halloween walk through downtown. It's where the kids get to trick or treat at all the businesses on Front St. Last year it was so crowded I said I'd never go again. It's amazing how the excitement of a 4 year old can change your mind!
It actually was not as bad as last year. I was still totally ready to be done at the end but I didn't feel like I wanted to drink immediately afterwards this time at least!
Alex had a blast! Last year he was asking to go home before we were even done with the whole street. This year he was still ready to keep going at the end.
From there we went over to Washington St. to stop at Team Schmitty's house. Johanna had a spectacular costume ;) A couple boys from Alex's preschool class live farther down the street so we walked for a ways down Washington. By the time we got back to the Schmidt house Alex's bucket was all the way full already and we hadn't even gone at home yet!
The weather was just beautiful here so it was still warm even when we got home and started trick or treating in our own neighborhood around 6:15pm.
We went around the small loop of our neighborhood. Alex even went up to the house that was having a haunted house! The woman there was wearing a very scary witch costume with elaborate make-up and she was cackling and calling to the kids on the road - I was shocked when Alex said "I want to go there!"
He ended up with quite a pile of loot that we hope he starts to forget about pretty soon - otherwise we may employ an idea of a friend of ours and start offering to buy his candy from him with coins that he can spend on stickers or a car or something like that instead.
I'll post all the pictures in the next few posts!
