Getting settled

We're back in the UP and getting settled. Ben started school right away on monday and I ended up having to go into work that day too so we are off and running! Big news on the baby front is that Alex can walk across our living room!! He still walks just to show off, not really as a mode of transportation - crawling is much faster.
Big news on the adult front is that before we left Ben got a job offer from the company he interned with. We are expecting a written, formal offer in the mail in the next couple weeks. He's very excited and we really liked living in Traverse City so it seems like a good thing all around.

Alex's Grandma, Grandpa and Great Grandma Ruth came to visit the weekend after his birthday and we had a party for him on saturday the 13th. He ate lasagna (!) for dinner, loved it, and had cake!
Last week Alex started taking a couple steps unassisted! He's gone 4 steps at the most before he falls, or just goes to crawling. I think he looks at it as more of a novelty thing to get attention right now than an actual mode of transportation :)
We had Uncle Paul, Aunt Karrie and the cousins over to visit last week too. Unfortunately after our long, hot sunny summer we didn't have the greatest weather while they were here. Alex sure loved playing with the big boys though! (see picture on top)
This week we are trying to pack up to move back to the UP, eh. Alex likes to unpack as fast as I pack so it's an adventure.

Alex is sporting some new jeans he got for fall and a really cute cowboy shirt a friend of mine from a parenting forum I belong to sent him! He loves drinking out of his straw cup because it makes a fun slurpy noise :)

Going to give this a try!

We're going to try starting a blog for our family. See if we can use it as an easy way for our family and friends to see pics of Alex and find out what we are doing!
Today is Alex's first birthday!! We are waiting for Ben to come home from work so we can go to the zoo and maybe even ride the train.
