FAT Tuesday

Today we hosted a Mardis Gras party for the MOMs club at our house in honor of Fat Tuesday. I had plain gold masks and then feathers, sequins and little puff balls for the kids to decorate them. We had beads and of course a King Cake!

When the masks were done they all tried them on but decided they didn't like wearing them for very long. So we put on some zydeco music (Buckwheat Zydeco has a children's cd called "Choo choo Boogaloo" that is really fun) and let them dance around like maniacs with their beads to burn off that King cake sugar.

I put the first two feathers on to show Alex a good place to put them where they wouldn't be over the eye holes (he kept wanting to put them right over the eyes) and then he did the rest!

Curious George Chaos

Today at the Great Lakes Children's museum they had a special appearance by Curious George. It started at 1pm. In the past when they've had special events at 1pm friends have told me that it gets busier as the afternoon goes on and nap times wind down so we thought we'd get there right away.

Our first clue to turn around and run, run away should have been that it took us 10 minutes to find a place to park and that spot was two buildings down and behind a dentist office.

The second clue would have been the line out the door.

Being a saturday, there were a lot of Dads along and just about all of them (Ben included) looked like they were seconds away from bolting for the door. Alex, amazingly enough, was not even phased by the crowds and chaos. He was ready to play. He caught a glimpse of George but was not interested in standing in the huge line for a picture with him so we just played for a while.

After we'd been there just over an hour the line for George was moving a lot quicker and there seemed to be a lull in the crowd and once Alex got a good look at him he really, really wanted to be able to go say "hi!" to him.

I didn't get the best facial expressions on camera unfortunately. He was really excited and got a little shy once he got right up there and was just waving and talking quietly to George, at one point if Ben would have handed him over I think Alex would have gone right over to George! When we were leaving the museum Alex had to go back and wave good-bye to him before we left.

He also got a free Curious George book (the original Curious George) and an activity book. We read the story book before bed and right before he went to sleep he said "Hey Mommy?" Yes. "Curious George is really big" :) I had been waiting all day for him to say something about that, because in the movie and all the books he is a little monkey and the character at the museum was the size of a small adult.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Ben took these pictures the other night while I was at the store and then him and Alex made me a Valentine card out of one of them!

Here is the box that Alex made to put his Valentine's from his friends in. I helped him put the scraps of paper on and he glued the hearts and shapes on himself:

Here is the plate Alex made when we went to the paint your own pottery place. He picked out the colors and did all the painting himself, I wrote his name and date:

A very happy boy

Just yesterday I was talking to a friend of mine and asked her to keep an eye in the paper for any used toy kitchens. Alex loves the kitchen at the Children's museum and always heads right for the toy kitchens at friend's houses. Well, she called this morning and said there was one listed so we called and drove to a little town not to far from here and picked it up this afternoon. It was a great deal and Alex is very excited.

"Mommy, I'm the coach!"

Alex found a whistle this morning that we had gotten last summer at some kids event downtown. He got all excited and put it around his neck and went and got Mr. Potato Head's baseball cap to put on his head and yelled "Mommy! I'm the coach! Want to be a team?" And then blew the whistle and yelled "Go Green Bay Packers! Go!" Of course I had to call Ben at work to tell him!

Alex the photographer

Alex is learning to take pictures! He's very gentle with our camera and listened when we showed him how to aim and which button to push. We have quite a few with fingers and camera straps in them but he's actually really getting the hang of it! It's so interesting to watch what things he decides to take a picture of. He really wants to take pictures of Chewy but Chewy always runs away.

Just regular stuff

Wow, I'm behind!

I see it's been a month since our last entry..........
There are several reasons for that.
One, we haven't been doing very many exciting things!
Two, although we haven't been doing many exciting blog-worthy type things we have been busy with the regular playdates with friends type of things.
Finally, I haven't been the most energetic or feeling the greatest. For those who haven't heard through the grapevine yet.............we're expecting a baby in September!
I'm about 9 weeks pregnant right now. The yucky-ness struck around 6 weeks. Things are a little different this time so I am in the process of figuring out what helps and what doesn't and it is getting a bit better.
I saw the midwife for the first time last week and it was a bit early to hear the heartbeat, but otherwise things look good. I'll see her again the end of the month and we should definately be able to hear it then.
