Oh Christmas Tree.......

The saturday after Thanksgiving we wanted to get our tree. It was a beautiful day and we wanted to go to a cut your own place and the next week had lots of rain predicted. I had gone shopping with a friend during the day and we had more fun that we planned so I didn't get home until later than planned. We still had enough daylight left so we headed down towards Kingsley to a place recommended by a neighbor.
When we got there, there was one older man working there and several other families there getting their trees. It was very obvious that this man had to talk extensively with each customer....great for that customer, not so good for those of us who may have had questions about what to do.
So we headed over to the instruction sign with prices and the saws, and went out to look for a tree while it was still light. We found *the* perfect tree almost right away. I stood by it to remember which one it was while Ben and Alex went to get a saw and see if we needed to do anything before cutting it down.
After waiting in line a while they find out that the trees on "this" side were not for this year, they are for next year. Guess where our perfect tree was? Yep, "this" side.
So we head over to "that" side and start looking for the row marked spruce. We can't find a row marked spruce. I head back to the gentleman working to find out where this years spruce trees are........"we don't have any spruce this year." Ok.
Now of course our window of daylight has greatly diminished. We finally find a passable tree, in the dark, and Ben gets it cut down.
We then head up to wait our turn by the bailer. The man in front of us has a 15 foot tree. The bailer is not made for 15 foot trees and this is very distressing to the man working there. Alex is getting antsy.
I step in a large pile of dog poo.
This is fun.
Finally it is our turn, it is now very dark and we are the last people there. The man working apologizes up, down and sideways. Apparently they normally have two of them there but since it was so warm they didn't think they'd be this busy, historically when it's that warm Thanksgiving weekend people just aren't in the holiday spirit yet and they hardly sell any trees. I won't narrate all of his stories to you but they included a story about how he won a Harley Davidson motorcycle at the church parish auction last year, about his lady friend Carol....you get the idea. Anyway, it ended up being a good experience over all, our tree is nice, Alex got a popcorn ball and we got hot chocolate and the owner said to bring Alex back on another weekend for a hayride.
