Maya can't tolerate cow milk so we've been giving her goat milk. She really seems to do well on it and loves to have a cup of milk before naps and bedtime. I've been searching for a goat farmer to get fresh milk for her. The stuff from the store is ultra-pasteurized - great for long shelf life, not so great for nutritional value - and it also has a very strong flavor/smell. And it also costs $4 a quart. Maya has worked herself up to a $40 a month goat milk "habit".
So after a couple dead ends we found a possibility and so her and I headed out saturday afternoon to Benzie county to find us a goat farm! We were told that a lot of people have trouble finding the address. I think "a lot of people" don't know how to read a map.
Hopefully by the end of the week we will have an official goat milk share! It will involve a little road trip once a week but the same farmer has eggs and yogurt and a farm right around the corner has some produce and herbs so I think we can make it worth the drive. Oh and the milk, it's almost half the price of the grocery store and SO much better. I can't believe the difference in the taste. Very mild, no smell.
We are just waiting to see if the farmer gets another couple female goats he has a sale pending on to make sure he has enough milk for everyone.
Since we were over that way Maya and I went exploring a bit in Frankfort. It was a beautiful evening. We ate dinner on the deck at a cafe over looking one of the marinas. Maya charmed the entire restaurant ~ people were coming out on the deck just to see the baby that all the employees were talking about!
